Cattle grazer foils leopard attack in PTR

Published on:

A 22 year old cattle grazer identified as Triloki Singh aborted a leopard attack on Tuesday morning when he was out with his buffalo in the jungle of Harhey under the Laat panchayat of the Chhipadohar east range of the tiger reserve Palamu.

He repulsed the leopard attack only to sustain wildlife bites on both his hands. He saved his life bare handed.

A senior civil society activist Kanhai Singh came as a saviour of him later on who took him to a government health hub and after great efforts Kanhai Singh got the injured Triloki Singh shot of the anti rabies injection.

Kanhai Singh said that initially the doctor was reluctant to administer anti rabies shot to this youth but as Kanhai Singh said "I had argued with the doctor to administer anti rabies shot as Triloki Singh was injured by a leopard. It was then that Triloki got his first anti rabies shot."He would be getting three more anti rabies injections on specific dates.

Giving details Kanhai Singh said Triloki Singh had taken his buffalo to a water body at Harhey when the leopard attacked him. It is the only water body which has water in it otherwise all resources to water have gone dry, said the senior civil society activist Kanhai Singh.

Triloki Singh held both claws in the air  and fought and cried but by then the leopard had injured both his hands which were stitched later on in the evening. Triloki Singh is poor and fatherless.

Sources said had the senior civil society activist Kanhai Singh not rushed to help, Triloki Singh's medical care would have been all delayed.

Chief conservator of forest and field director of the tiger reserve Palamu Kumar Ashutosh said "It is strange no ranger told me about this survival battle of the cattle grazer. Let me find out what this is all about."

Field director said this man is under treatment in the MMCH Daltonganj.
