Cataract surgery has begun in the MMCH Daltonganj said the head of the department of ophthalmology Dr Dharmender Kumar.

He said on an average it is now 3 to 4 cataract surgeries in a week. Four were operated upon quite recently and they are doing fine said Dharmender.

The eye departmental in MMCH has in all 5 doctors two of them eye surgeons namely Dharmender Kumar and Rakesh Kumar. The other remaining 3 are one medical officer and two junior residents.

The additional chief medical officer Dr Anil Kumar said he has requested the officials of the department of eye to maintain the flow of the cataract surgery depending upon the valuation of the fitness of case for the cataract surgery.

The ACMO further said there was some issue of the medicines in this department which has been sorted out.

However the head of the department of eye said our department needs to be updated instrument wise.

He said we have a very old operating microscope whose illumination is not that sharp. It is desired to be replaced.

Again our department needs keratometer, A - scan, slit lamp and auto refractoro meter added the head of the department.

On being asked that there is a popular belief that cataract surgery is preferable in winter season only to which head of the department said no surgery is any dependent upon the season.

Cataract surgery can be done in any season when the patient and the doctor find it to be done like patient feeling vision problem or vision impacting his daily routine while the doctor on his part is to ensure that the cataract is mature enough for the surgical procedure.

Interesting queries are made now in this time of what's app and social media like can a person having cataract surgery see videos, read texts or use what's app,  instagram, tweeter handle etc.

Dharmender Kumar has one most valuable advice. Give rest to your cataract operated upon eye or eyes and then it will take care of you. Again keep your eyes safe and protect it from dust, smoke etc.
