After the long wait and years of apathy for commuters the Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) finally have come up with the idea of building cattle sheds in the city for stray animals.
The civic body in the order to make the shelters has also identified couple of sites where disowned cows, buffalos or even dogs would be brought. “This year itself we have conducted the meeting to execute the plan of cattle shed for stray animals. We have also demarcated 2-3 sites in the outskirts of the city for this particular purpose. By the end of the year the final decision will be taken regarding this and proposal will be ready within the timeframe. Probably in year the 2016 we will finally develop a proper cattle shed for stray animals,” said RMC Deputy Mayor Sanjeev Vijayvargia.
Increasing number of stray cattle on the streets of Ranchi has been creating trouble for the commuters since long. They often make the motorists in danger as well as individuals find it difficult to walk past the wandering animals during the busy hours of the day. These stray cattle often lead to the rising number of road accidents in the city too.
In November 2012, RMC had decided that a committee would be formed to identify and capture the stray cattle.
The captured cattle were to be kept in the city cattle shed and if the owner did not claim the cattle, it would be considered the property of the cattle shed. However, the plan was not executed and denizens still have to face the similar situation on the roads especially when an individual is driving.
But after 3 years RMC had started working on the proposal of cattle shed. Citing details about the city cattle shed public relation officer of RMC Naresh Kumar Sinha said, “Few years back the corporation planned to get into an agreement with the ‘Gaushala’ committee of the city for the purpose of building cattle shed in the city but it could not happen. We have identified the problem of stray cattle and may be after the Durga puja steps to tackle this problem will be taken.”
Apart from crawling traffic people also have to face the problem of stray cattle’s in the city. One of the commuters, Amol prasad said, “The cows leisurely walk on the roads and there is very little space for a cars or two wheelers to pass. At times, one had to get down from the vehicle to shoo the cows away. Similarly, dogs too run on the roadside creating problem for the pedestrians and vehicle riders. Often I have witnessed so many accidents because of these stray animals.”
