In an attempt to maintain the previous ranking grabbed by the State biggest Urban Local Body (ULB) – Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) in the Swacchta Survekshan – 2018, the Municipal Corporation has fastened its belt.
From purchasing composting machines to decking up posters, banners at a few identified spots, the Civic Body is leaving no stone unturned despite some major stumbling blocks like availability of disposal sites, recycling concept etc.
The Swacchta Survekshan – 2019 will initiate from January 4 covering 4000 cities. The cleanliness challenge is organised annually by Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, GoI.
“As per the detailed plan, the Municipal Corporation has introduced innovative concepts like identification of rag-picker groups for segregation of solid waste materials from Mini- Transfer Stations (MTS), utilising non-plastic materials in designing flexes, banners etc. The City Managers engaged with RMC Sanitation Cell have been asked to conduct massive awareness drive at different localities,” said Municipal Commissioner, Manoj Kumar on Wednesday.
“Composting machines will be put up at three market places like Nagababa Khatal, Daily Market including the New Market Area. Regular reviews and monitoring of day to day garbage collection at each ward is being ensured by the Municipal Corporation,” added Kumar.
To scale up the coverage of the annual ranking exercise by promoting and elaborating the concept of ‘Swacch Bharat Abhiyan’s – Swacchta Survekshan’, this year, special attention under ‘Solid Waste Management’ criteria is on processing and disposal of waste (30 per cent), collection and transportation (27 per cent), sustainable sanitation (25 per cent), Innovation (5 per cent), By-laws (5 per cent), CB (3 per cent) and Information, Education and Communication (IEC) ( 5 per cent).
Furthermore, comprising 5000 marks, an additional element containing 1,250 points (for certification 25 per cent, 20 per cent star rating including 5 per cent for open defecation free (ODF), ODF + and ODF ++ has been added, besides keeping the previous model of direct observation, citizen feedback, service level progress for which 1,250 marks each under these three sub-heads will be given to the capital city.
At present, RMSW – Essel Infra is handling the charge of solid waste management service here in Ranchi covering 33 wards while rest 20 wards are under the jurisdiction of Municipal Corporation.
