Trumpets blaring in high decibel for past one week have gone silent with the deadline for the election campaigning to Jamshedpur election coming to an end this afternoon but the temptation of the candidates to reach out to the electorate hasn’t. As the day began sensing few hours for the poll campaign, candidates made their last-minute push to woo voters.

JVM’s sitting MP Dr Ajoy Kumar and rival Vidyut Baran Mahto of the BJP remained confined in the city while JMM’s Niroop Mahanty spent time in Patamda with party supremo Shibu Soren.

Kumar started his day interacting with the morning walkers at Kadma-Sonari link Road for an hour. He also went to Sitaramdera, Govindpur and fringe pocket of Gadra. Kumar conducted a door-to-door campaign in MGM area before winding up his campaign by meeting dwellers of residential flats in Kadma. “I have received support from all corners and am assured of my win,” Kumar noted.

Bidyut Mahto visited Jubilee Park to seek votes from morning walkers. “ I am satisfied with the response I received. People are fed up with Ajoy Kumar who is a part time MP, I will remain a fulltime representative of the people,” Mahto said. Bidyut also visited Tata Steel entry gates to attract contractual workers.

Mahanty, on the other hand, visited rural Patamda to seek votes with Guruji and remained there till late in the afternoon. “Pad Yatra is the best mode of interaction with the voters but given the size of the constituency it gets little complex to touch voters individually however, we are aiming to cover as many people as we could in the remaining hours,” said a JMM leader.

The Jamshedpur parliamentary constituency has 15,51,297 voters and 1,626 booths . Jamshedpur will go for votes on April 17 to decide the fate of 15 candidates in fray. Presently, Jamshedpur lok Sabha constituency comprises the six Vidhan Sabha seats — Baharagora Ghatshila, Potka, Jugsalai, Jamshedpur East and Jamshedpur West.
