Though there are several candidates in the field, the real fray is among the very few candidates, Congress candidate Rama Khalkho being the most popular and strongest contender. BJP is backing Ajay Tirky as its Mayoral candidate.

As Veteran tribal activist and champion of tribal issues, Ratan Tirky has also fielded himself for the post of Mayor; he will also be giving a good fight to Rama Khlakho. Tirky is having backing of left parties. Antu Tirky, with the backing of Jhakhand Mukti Morcha is quite sure of his victory as he feels that he can bring changes by providing ration cards to a the downtrodden.

Sanjay Toppo, a candidate from Jharkhand Vikas Morcha will also pose a great challenge for the prominent candidates like Khlakho and Tirky.
