The campaigning for Kolhan university students’ union polls ended on Wednesday evening at 4pm. The poll would take place at respective colleges on September 18 (till 4 pm) while result would be declared on September 19.

On the last day JMM-backed Jharkhand Chatra Morcha (JCM) national president Amit Mahto addressed students. The 36-year-old debutant MlA from Silli, who defeated Ajsu chief and former state deputy CM, Sudesh Mahto interacted with party candidates and visited to all the seven colleges in city today.

He campaigned at Mango-based Jamshedpur Workers College, Abdul Bari Memorial College (Golmuri), Graduate School College for Women (Sakchi), Jamshedpur Women’s College (Bistupur) and Jamshedpur Cooperative College (Bistupur).

“Development of infrastructure and promotion of academics is our poll plank. I have asked candidates to address problems of colleges and work for better atmosphere,” said Amit Mahto.

“We are really happy with the campaigning . All the 22 candidates in fray from JCM in seven colleges of city have been motivated after the response amongst the student’s fraternity to the visit of our national president Amit Mahto. No senior leader of ABVP and NSUI have visited city for campaigning but our national president presence has motivated us,” said JCM district secretary Mohammed  Sarfaraz.

In 2007, students’ elections were held in the college here, then part of the Ranchi University. Kolhan University runs 25 colleges that include 14 constituent and eight affiliated colleges and two minority colleges. The Jamshedpur Woman’s College is the lone autonomous college of the university.

The elections would be for the posts of president, vice-president, general secretary and joint secretary. Undergraduate or postgraduate student registered with the varsity can contest the polls. Students having 75 per cent of attendance can fight the election.
