The cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Friday decided to start Sona Sobran Dhoti Sari Yojana under which BPL families of Jharkhand will be given either one dhoti or one lungi besides one sari twice in a fiscal year.
Cabinet secretary Ajoy Kumar Singh who briefed the media about the scheme said that all such families that come under National Food Safety Act will be entitled to avail benefit of this scheme.
“Under the scheme clothes will be provided at a subsidized rate that is Rs 10 per piece of cloth. Under this scheme a family will be give one dhoti or one lungi besides one sari. This will be given twice in a financial year on an interval of six months. This financial year it will be given once only,” said Singh.
In Jharkhand there are around 57.1 lakh BPL families. For this scheme the government has sanctioned Rs 200 crore and the allotment will be increased as per requirement.
Soren during his first tenure had started this much applauded scheme. But this was dropped during the Raghubar Das led government.
In another significant decision the cabinet gave relief to transporters who were demanding tax relief.
The cabinet decided not to charge road tax corresponding to the period of the lockdown when the vehicular movement was restricted to stop the spread of Covid-19.
“Buses, trucks and other goods carrying vehicles were not operating during the lockdown period because of the complete restriction on the movement. Even auto-rickshaws were off the road. On different points of time movement of buses, trucks and likes were allowed by the government. Hence road tax of such vehicles will be waived-off for such months,” said cabinet secretary. The cabinet also approved a second revision of Bagu Hatu irrigation project under Jamshedpur notified area for which Rs 30 crore will be spent on construction.
