The traffic cops standing for long hours at a check post may deliver their duties more actively and fearlessly with the small hi-tech cameras to capture public activities being rolled out recently. Making surveillance more effective the idea to distribute 100 button size cameras to the cops has proven to be a boon.
The tiny button cameras issued with a purpose to all the traffic cops is being utilized and has come as much respite for cops as now they are able to deliver their duties with buoyancy.
Moreover, to spike all unruly commuters, the decision to equip the cops with sophisticated small spy cameras is also helping the department in maintaining accuracy while getting the detailed report from every traffic check post instantly.
“Cops delivering their duties at the 40 major traffic check posts with the cameras have mentioned that the camera fear has reduced the incidents of clash between the drivers and the traffic constables,” said, Traffic SP, Sanjay Ranjan Singh.
“All the 100 button size cameras have been handed over to the constables for capturing the unruly behavior of public during the duty hours after imparting one day training and have cautioned the public as well. In April, the traffic department handed over the cameras and since then less incident of ruckus or case of manhandling has been reported,” added the Traffic SP.
The cameras that can record for four hours is connected with wireless system and the officers can collect immediate feedback from the cop, if any untoward incident has occurred at any check post. The button camera has an internal memory of 32 GB. The rechargeable battery can work for long hours at a stretch.
Traffic DSP, Dilip Xalxo who earlier got in clamor with a bike rider near Albert Ekka Chowk, said, “It has made our jobs easier, now at least we will have evidence and can act immediately. Offenders used to threaten us in the name of politicians, bureaucrats. Now, we can capture their offensive behaviour on camera. Cops can either keep the cameras on or else can start it whenever they feel like.”
Similarly, A traffic constable, delivering his duty at Sahajanand Chowk, said, “This is one major route of the city, we have to be on the toes every time. After getting the cameras, we are confidently dealing with the motorists. We just need to connect it with the handy DVRs that are attached with a wire.”
The recordings are not being kept but it is being monitored at least once by the senior officials. Soon, the Traffic Department will hand over good quality smart-phones to the constables.
The Traffic SP stated that the department has received a consignment of smart phones. Making the system more user friendly, smart phones will be given to all the cops who are using button cameras for delivering better service.
