BSM writes to CEC on electoral reforms

The Bharatiya Suraj Manch has written to the Chief Election Commissioner, India, on bringing office bearers of Political Parties under ambit of lokpal and lokayukt.

The letter sent to the CEC states, “Political parties have emerged in India and worldwide as important public institutions playing a significant role in determining the quality of democracy and governance. While Trusts, Societies, Cooperative and companies have all legal frameworks to regulate their functioning, political parties have none. This is the reason dynastic successions are taking place without justifiable reasons, money is being charged for giving tickets, office bearers of parties are working for a consideration as middlemen in striking deals for transfers and postings and for securing contracts for firms and business houses, and the party high commands are charging huge amounts for making handpicked individuals Chief Ministers and ministers. These are all corrupt practices in one form or the other. Various kinds of corrupt practices like giving tickets for a consideration are also in evidence before the current elections, which are underlining the need for a serious thinking.”

It further says that it was time it was realised that political parties are public institutions and not private properties of a few individuals, and office bearers of parties public men. like in Goa, office bearers of all nationally recognised parties should be brought under the investigative jurisdiction of the lokpal for acts of corruption, and of regional parties, under the lokayukt.
