Bokaro Steel Plant has been awarded the prestigious ELETS National Water Innovation Award in the category of Leading Corporate (PSU) for its significant contribution in the field of industrial water conservation. SAIL Director (Technical) and CEO Bokaro Steel Plant Harinand Rai has received this award on behalf of BSL.
The award was received by BSL at the National Water Innovation Conference -2020 organized jointly by ELETS Techno Media and Water Power Ministry, Government of India. In this conference, the nomination document was sent to the Jury by Bokaro Steel Plant's Environmental Control Department and SAIL EMD, Kolkata.
It is noteworthy that SAIL, Bokaro Steel Plant is a water-positive company where the water for production is not taken from the ground water sources, but rather the ground water level is raised by the water stored in the cooling pound spread over five square kilometers. In the direction of water conservation efforts, a rain water harvesting project at Bokaro Steel Plant has also been completed and the process of five other such projects is going on.
