BSl plans ITI training for Birhor youths

Birhor children nurtured in urban culture and educated under Gyan Jyoti Yojana - a CSR activity of Bokaro Steel ltd (BSl) - are set to be technically qualified by the company.

The Birhors are a primitive tribe on the verge of extinction and Bokaro Steel is trying to provide them with better employment opportunities. On Sunday, BSl CEO Anutosh Maitra met nine Birhor boys who finished their class XII examination and will now get ITI training.

Besides other facilities like free food, accommodation and education, all of them will get a stipend of Rs 2,500 for 14 months, according to Sanjay Tewari, chief of communications. “After completing their ITI education, all will get on job industrial training at Bokaro Steel Plant,” he added.

The management has recently adopted another batch of Birhor children and bears responsibility of the children, their food, accommodation and education. “The motive behind adoption is to provide them better educational environment and urban culture so they become inspiration for others in their community,” Tewari added.

BSl’s CSR is offering a plethora of opportunities to socially and economically marginalised people in and around Bokaro.
