Bokaro Steel Plant CEO Anutosh Maitra met representatives of Visthapit Sanyukta Parivar and discussed on unemployment and other developmental issues. Executive Director (Personnel & Admnistration) Shitanshu Prasad, General Manager (Personnel) BK Thakur and officers of the Industrial Relations team were present in the meeting which was held in CEO's Conference Hall on Monday. The organisations of displaced persons were represented by respective heads.

In meeting representatives of the displaced people expressed a need for multi-pronged intervention in view of unemployment and other developmental deficit. Reiterating BSl's sensitivity and commitment towards the development of this entire region and its people, Maitra assured that SAIl and BSl would undertake a range of initiatives for holistic development. It was clarified that in view of government policy and judicial pronouncements, BSl is unable to reserve vacancies for persons from displaced families.

He suggested that empowerment through skill enhancement and promotion of self-employment initiatives can yield substantive results in terms of financial self-reliance of such families. The displaced persons' representatives submitted that employment hitherto provided to displaced persons has proved inadequate, and BSl's support is solicited in this regard.

During the discussion Maitra pointed out that BSl's capacity expansion is absolutely essential in today's intensely competitive steel market, and this expansion will also lead to generation of new opportunities of livelihood on a large scale. This opportunity can be harnessed through creation of a positive industrial environment and skill enhancement of the youth, so that they can avail of opportunities in projects, other contractual work and other organisations as well, he said.

It was agreed that based on the discussions, further ideas and fresh proposals need to be generated. After giving shape to these ideas, the issue will be taken forward.
