Aiming to conserve water and secure the future, a plantation drive was conducted at Bokaro Steel Plant (BSL). CEO Pawan Kumar Singh inaugurated GM Mechanical Park, a newly developed park near the ED building premises and planted saplings under Jal Shakti Abhiyan.
“BSL has adopted specific measures towards water conservation. Following the clarion call given by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to save water and secure the future, we (BSL) are on move to increase green cover in its periphery,” said MK Dhan, Chief of Communication BSL.
“We have targeted to plant about one lakh saplings on the 100 acres of land near Garga Dam by ‘shram daan’ (voluntary work) under the Jal Shakti Abhiyan,” he added.
Dhan said that an intensive tree planting programme is underway and over thousands of sapling were planted in past few days. Under the tree plantation drive trees like Banyan, Peepal, Sheesham, Sagwan, Acacia, Neem, Arjun, mango, jackfruit among others are being planted.
“Under Jal Shakti Abhiyan rainwater harvesting, reuse of treated wastewater, rejuvenation of water bodies and intensive tree plantation would be carried out,” he informed.
BSL has already taken initiative in relation to the recycled wastewater and is moving forward towards zero discharge. Similarly, continuous sapling plantation in the plant premises and city is also in the direction of environment protection. BSL is also taking initiative in the direction of rainwater harvesting and is committed to making this campaign successful, said COC.
The COC said that Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) is observing August 2019 as water conservation month across all its Plants and Units. SAIL has been taking specific measures to sustainably use this natural resource. Through consistent efforts, SAIL has achieved 75 percent reduction of specific water consumption over the last two decades.
SAIL has been reusing and recycling most of the water required in these processes. Through various measures including localised re-circulation of water through Effluent Treatment Plants (ETPs),Industrial and Township Sewage Water Treatment and re circulation, plugging of leakages, rain water harvesting and implementing state-of-the-art technologies SAIL has brought down its water consumption level substantially over the years. It is taking proactive further steps to reduce it continuously, said Dhan.
