Giving a clarion call for Modi’s ‘Make in India’ campaign, CII-EXIM Bank Business Excellence Award assessor team asked Bokaro Steel Plant (BSl) to concentrate on production of export quality of steel.
Impressed over the quality product of BSl, production, management and overall performance of BSl, BNN Prasad, head of the assessor team, suggested to the steel plant management to look for increasing the global market share as China is the main rival in the path, he said. In a bid to increase its export and to meet the future challenges Prasad suggested to minimize the production cost, increase productivity with innovation and to opt emerging iron making technologies.
Tata Steel and Jindal Steel are the main competitor of BSl in domestic market so quality production at lowest cost is essential, said Prasad.
Tata Steel is among the top ten global steel companies with an annual crude steel capacity of over 28 million tonnes per annum (mtpa). It is among the lowest cost producers of steel in the world while Steel Authority of India limited (SAIl) is India's largest steel producer and is the 21st largest in the world.
“So BSl have to achieve the growth and sustain higher levels of cost and quality competitiveness”, added Prasad.
Prasad along with a seven member team of assessors rushed at Bokaro for on-site assessment of the entry of Bokaro Steel Plant for the prestigious CII-EXIM Bank Business Excellence Award on Sunday. The team led by B NN Prasad MFX Consultancy, Dr Sripathi Kumar from Maysore, Ausaf Ahmad NTPC New Delhi, Vikas Arora form TATA Power New Delhi, Saroj Khuntia Exim Bank Mumbai, Amrendra Chakarborty Kolkata and KN Babu from Kirloskar Brothers were carried out the assessment after visiting sites and interacted with various team to meet the assessment criteria.
The team also interacted with local media persons at ADM Building Hall on Friday; the team will leave Bokaro on Saturday noon.
The CII-EXIM Bank Business Excellence Award employs one of the most rigorous and recognised systems of evaluating business excellence. As the premier industry association of India, CII is the apt agency for instituting such an award for the domestic industry and businesses”, said Prasad.
“A large number of corporates apply for this award, and the assessment team conducts site visit for only those applicants who score a certain minimum of marks on the basis of the application document”, BSl official said.
