The Steel Melting Shop – New (SMS-New) department of Bokaro Steel Plant (BSL) has achieved a remarkable milestone by successfully completing an uninterrupted casting sequence of 252 heats, setting a new benchmark in operational excellence. This achievement surpasses the previous record of 211 heats and stands as a testament to BSL’s technical efficiency, teamwork, and continuous innovation.

The casting sequence began on May 26, 2025, and concluded on June 2, 2025. During this period, nine flying tundish changes were executed, and the caster operated seamlessly for eight consecutive days, resulting in the casting of 1,321 slabs and the production of approximately 30,000 tonnes of steel.

This feat was accomplished under the strategic guidance of BSL Director In-Charge Birendra Kumar Tiwari and Executive Director (Operations)  C. R. Mahapatra. The casting operation was led by Chief General Manager In-Charge (Steel)  Arvind Kumar and Chief General Manager (SMS-New)  P. V. Rao.

It is noteworthy that the SMS-New department had recently achieved another milestone by casting 34 heats from a single tundish, further demonstrating BSL’s growing capabilities and innovation-driven approach.

The BSL management lauded the dedicated efforts of the SMS-New team and supporting departments, congratulating them on this record-setting accomplishment. This milestone not only enhances BSL’s production capabilities but also reflects its consistent contribution to SAIL’s mission of building a stronger and self-reliant India.
