Disclosing the truth behind the infamous murder case of transporter Manjit Singh, Ranchi police stated that his younger brother Ranjit Singh and maternal uncle Ram Singh killed for dominance over family’s transport business in Khalari.
Ram used to look after the two trucks which shipped coal from Khalari on behalf of Manjit’s family but was not giving the correct details of the transactions for the past few months. His family had been going through economic problems of late.
“Ram tempted Ranjit that he will own the property and business if he kills Manjit. So according to their plan, Ranjit took his brother to Albert Ekka Chowk on the pretence of an ice cream trip on the night of March 28. Ranjit was driving the car and Manjit was in the rear seat,” stated Superintendent of Police (City) Kishore Kaushal during a press conference on Tuesday.
Finding the shop closed, they went to meet friend Arvinder Singh in Purulia Road. On their way home via Bahu Bazaar, Ranjit stopped the car near their home in Bansal Plaza and allowed Ram to enter the vehicle. He then shot his nephew in the forehead with an illegal pistol after a brief scuffle and threatened Ranjit to keep his mouth shut.
The initial statement by Ranjit, that four assailants on two motorcycles shot Manjit, was also concocted by their uncle. Police is on the lookout for Ram who is absconding.
Ranchi police also arrested one Sanjay lohra in connection with murder of Pramod Mahto on March 19 near Birsa Chowk. Police has seized one pistol, four bullets, one mobile phone and the vehicle used for transporting other culprits involved in the murder case.
