The concept of ‘Bora Bandh’ hit the shores of two rivers in Tamar as hundreds of villagers of Mankidih witnessed the determination of few to control the flow of Karkari and Raagi river with plastic sacks to help agricultural activities in the village around 40km away from capital.
Around 250-300 villagers, chiefly women witnessed the historic moment in the presence of Secretary of Vikas Bharti, Ashok Bhagat.
The concept of ‘Bora Bandh’ gained popularity ever since the social organisation decided to seek solution to falling water table by creating ‘bora bandh’.
“Take this work at community level and use this water for agriculture. Our organisation will provide seeds for agriculture purpose,” said Bhagat.
Notably, the campaign started by Vikas Bharti focused on 22 villages in Ranchi, 20 villages in Gumla, 18 villages in latehar and 10 villages in lohardaga.
According to detailed plan of the organisation, one ‘bora bandh’ will be constructed across each of the 70 villages selected for the
campaign.
The non-government organisation started its ‘bora bandh’ project on February 15 in three districts—Ranchi, lohardaga, latehar and Gumla-- to built 70 small check dams with plastic sacks till February 25.
However, as demands of assistance for ‘bora bandh’ is pouring at the office of Vikas Bharti, the campaign was extended till March 15 and now it is likely to extend up to the end of the month.
