Bokaro soon to get government engineering college

Jharkhand Government is all set to give a strong boost to higher education in the State and has given nod to open an engineering college at Chandenkiyari at Bokaro district. The district administration handed over 20 acres of land for construction of the college building at Chandankiyari. With an estimated expenditure of Rs 35.38 lakhs, an engineering college is proposed at Chandankiyari, while the Government has approved Rs 39.17 crore for engineering college at Godda, informed an official.

A tender has been executed by Jharkhand State Building Construction Corporation; tender might be opened on July 2, he said.

Engineering college at Bokaro is an eagerly awaited desire of the local residents, now soon to be fulfilled, said Amar Bauri State Revenue and Land reforms Minister.

It will keep a check on the migration of the students. We are at work so that construction work could be completed on its scheduled time.  Hope academic session might be started from 2022, he said.

Notably, students are continuously migrating out of the State in search of technical courses, which results in the loss of revenue to the State.

Meanwhile, a medical college is also proposed at Bokaro Steel City. Ministry of Steel has already been granted 25 acres of land near Biada Colony at Sector 12 in Bokaro Steel City for establishing a medical college. On the directive of State Government, the district administration has identified the land for establishing a Medical College.

Then Bokaro DC Rai Mahimapat Ray had written a letter to Bokaro Steel Plant (BSL) management in this concern on November 2016 and asked for earliest transfer formalities for the aforesaid land.

Bokaro Steel Plant, which runs a 910-bed Bokaro General Hospital (BGH), was keen on opening a medical college since 2004-05; got MCI nod in the year 2012 for establishing and upgrading BGH as a medical college after the needful verification, later the management initiated the process to enter into JV talk with several medical institutions like Chennai based Sri Ram Chandra Medical College, DY Patil Medical College Mumbai, Manipal Medical College including others for setting up the college. But talk delayed over stake tussle and project was hindered.
