Bodies of two children found at Subernarekha river

Recovery of dead bodies of two children from river Subernarekha along Bagunhatu in Sidhgora police station triggered a sensation among local residents on Tuesday morning. The bodies were not identified till the report was being filed. The children are aged 10 and 15 years old, police said.

The police suspected that since the victims’ bodies were naked, it was assumed that they were drowned while taking bath. The police have recovered both the bodies and sent to the MGM Medical College mortuary for post-mortem after registering a case of drowning.

Officer-in-charge, Sidhgora police station Raju Thakur said last night some local residents of Bagunhatu informed over telephone that body of a 10-year-old boy was found on the river bank.

“As the news reached us a police party rushed to the spot and recovered the body, which was shifted to the MGM Medical College mortuary for post-mortem after keeping for about an hour for identification at Bagunhatu. But at about 6 am today, we got information about another body floating in the bank of the river at a little distance away from the earlier spot along Bagunhatu,” said the officer-in-charge.

“The recovery of the bodies within a span of few hours has spread sensation in the area. However, we immediately recovered the body and kept it in the open so as to get it identified, but none in the locality could identify the body, hence we concluded that both the children might have drowned at a same place away from Bagunhatu,” said the police officer.

He pointed out as there was no cloth on the bodies of the victims, they assumed that both of them might have drowned in the river while taking bath.

The police have, however, spread the message of the recoveries of both the bodies by means of wireless.

An official in the post-mortem department at the MGM Medical College mortuary confirmed about arrival of two bodies for the post-mortem since late in the Monday night.

“We have kept the bodies in the mortuary for identification. We will get the bodies disposed off after waiting for the next 72 hours,” said an official.

With the onset of monsoon season incidents of drowning while taking bath in the river has become a regular affair. A few days ago, a six-year-old girl, Ansu Kumari, was drowned while taking bath in the Kharkai river along the Kadma police station area.
