BK Hariprasad arrives to 'revive' Jharkhand Cong

The newly appointed in-charge of the Congress in Jharkhand BK Hariprasad carries a tough job in his hand as he arrives Ranchi on his maiden visit on Thursday evening.

Officially he would be discussing organisational matters with string of party leaders and office-bearers but there is no denying about his close look on the possibilities of Government formation front in the State. As per the official plan, Hariprasad is scheduled to meet some party leaders on Thursday evening. Though, the official consultations with Congress MP, MlAs, senior leaders and district presidents would take place on Friday at party head office.

Talking about the agenda of Hariprasad’s visit Pradesh Congress Committee president Sukhdeo Bhagat denied having the probable coalition in making on platter. “This is his first visit of Jharkhand after being designated as in-charge of party affairs and he would like to have interactions with party leaders to take a feel of the party affairs in the State. There is no official meeting related to Government formation front,” said Bhagat.

Nevertheless, keeping recent developments in mind that has dropped sufficient hints about Congress entering into a coalition with the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), the visit stores more than this. “He would discuss the issue with leaders here and try to take feed from them. His observation about ground reality and feedback he would take back to Congress high command would be vital,” said a senior leader.

A section of the party would meet Hariprasad and apprise him about the side-effects of the Government formation with the JMM. “Stephen Marandi and Alamgir Alam and I along with few others would meet him and make him realise how suicidal would be the step for the Congress. We would present instances of betrayals in the hands of JMM. Even today, they are saying that they can go with anyone. The unfaithful JMM has no political culture to bank upon,” said senior party leader Radha Krishna Kishore who has been vocal against the coalition.

The camp would also count on “falling” popularity of the JMM even in Santhal Paragna area; considered its stronghold. “Neither people nor workers of the party want this alliance to happen. They are a sinking boat and it would not be a wise step to ride it,” added Kishore, who has been made divisional in-charge of Palamau in the effort to revive Congress bases at grass-root levels.

However the pro-coalition voices are stronger and most of the party legislators would press for a positive decision to be taken by party high command. Following the series of meetings in Delhi the top brass of the Congress is about to pronounce its final say on the matter and Hariprasad’s feedback would play a crucial role into that.PNS n Ranchi
