The State BJP Mahila Morcha unit on Wednesday welcomed the passage of Triple Talaq Bill in Rajya Sabha. Describing the passage of Triple Talaq Bill as ‘historic step’, the national president of BJP Mahila Morcha (BJP women wing), Vijaya Rahatkar, said that Muslim women, who have suffered from Triple Talaq, will now get a chance to live with honour and justice.

Rahatkar, who is on two-day visit to State to oversee BJP membership drive, said, “I thank Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the parties who had supported the smooth passage of Triple Talaq bill in Upper House of Parliament.”

In a major political win for Narendra Modi Government, the Triple Talaq Bill was cleared in Rajya Sabha with 99 to 84 votes on Tuesday. The Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Bill will now go to President Ram Nath Kovind for his assent. Once the Bill gets the assent of the President and notified by the Government, it will replace the Triple Talaq ordinance of promulgated last in February.

The Triple Talaq bill has been a bone of contention between the Narendra Modi Government and Opposition since December 2017. The Bill was cleared by Lok Sabha thrice but every time, it got stuck due to NDA’ s less number in Rajya Sabha. Rahatkar said, “With the passage of Bill in the Rajya Sabha, Muslim women will get justice in equality.”

Echoing the views of Rahatkar, Minister for Social Welfare, Women and Child Development, Louis Marandi said, “The Triple Talaq issue was one of the complicated issues which were pending for years. But due to initiative of Prime Minister Narendra Modi the issue was simplified.” Marandi said, “Those families who have faced the tragedy of Triple Talaq will have a relief after the passage of bill. The Muslim women complicated issue will come to end.”

State Education Minister Neera Yadav who too was present on the occasion said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi tried to understand the pain of Triple Talaq victim.

Meanwhile, State BJP Spokesperson Misfiqa Hassan termed the passage of Triple Talaq bill as historic. She said, “After 2017, there were 543 cases of Triple Talaq, however, after Supreme Court directive terming Triple Talaq as unconstitutional still there were 229 cases of Triple Talaq. But with passage of bill from Rajya Sabha the number of such cases will drastically come down.”

The BJP Minority Cell members also celebrated the passage of Triple Talaq with BJP members distributing sweets among Muslim women. The BJP minority cell members also bust crackers celebrating the historic decision.
