BJP to hold Chaupal to spread awareness on farm laws

Published on:

After Prime Minister Narendra Modi asked BJP workers to start spreading out reaching out to farmers to inform them about the benefits of farm bills, the state BJP unit has prepared a strategy for reaching out to cultivators. The BJP will hold Khatia (Cot) and chaupal meet at villages meeting villagers and farmers highlighting the features of farm bill.

The BJP for this has decided to constitute a committee comprising members from the party who will visit various villages spreading awareness about farm bills.

The party has also decided to take the help of intellectuals and persons influencing farmers in creating awareness about farm bills.

The Saffron party strategy is in response to all India agitation against the Essential Commodities (Amendment) bills, the Farmers Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Bills, and the Farmers (empowerment and protection) agreement of price assurance and farm services bill passed by Parliament despite Opposition parties opposing it.

The BJP has lost one of its oldest allies Akali Dal which has opposed the farm bills. The party forming strategy to counter the Opposition has come on the day when Congress held a state wise agitation opposing the farm bill.

Highlighting the benefits of farm bill, BJP state president Deepak Prakash said, “I am grateful that I am one of the witnesses of farm bills. The opposition including Congress is opposing farm bills as they are with middlemen. The farm bills will give more power to farmers as they can easily sell their agricultural produce in markets without involving middlemen.”

Prakash said that today Congress organised a protest meeting opposing the farm bills, but ironically there were no farmers in the protest march.

BJP State president Deepak Prakash claimed that during the last assembly election the Congress party in its manifesto has talked about introducing various welfare measures for farmers but it is the same party which is opposing the farm bills.

Prakash claimed that Congress is spreading lies on the minimum support price. He said that MSP is not part of any law. He claimed that MSP was an administrative decision of the government earlier and is even today. The government has recently increased the MSP of some food grains. Prime Minister Narendra Modi too has clearly stated that the minimum support price will continue so there is no confusion over this.
