BJP terms Soren’s Confidence Motion as unwanted, unconstitutional

Published on:

Amidst the ongoing political turmoil in the state, the Hemant Soren government on Monday won the vote of trust moved by the Government by 48 votes to zero amidst Opposition staging a walkout. The BJP legislators protesting against the State Government adopted an aggressive stand both outside and inside the House.

As Soren stood to speak on trust vote, the BJP members started a ruckus as soon as the proceedings of the house started. Amidst the uproar, the Chief Minister moved the confidence motion in the House. Even after this, the situation of uproar continued in the house. The opposition surrounded the government over Dumka incidents where Ankita was burnt alive by Shahrukh while in other incident a tribal girl was raped and hanged.

Meanwhile, BJP state president cum Rajya Sabha MP Deepak Prakash Soren government convened a special session of the Jharkhand Legislative Assembly for securing the trust vote. He said that the way the atmosphere was created regarding this session, as if Hemant Sarkar was going to call the session and take some big decision. The public expected that there would be a serious discussion in the House regarding the proposal to give big relief to farmers on drought, local policy based on Khatiyan , increasing crime on women and increase in OBC, ST and SC reservation, none of these issues were discussed in House.

He said that the Jharkhand government gained the confidence of the MLAs but lost the trust of the people of Jharkhand. It is ridiculous that when the government is in operation then why confidence motion was moved.

Senior legislator Saryu Roy termed it a futile exercise saying it has actually exposed the weakness of the government.

“When Hemant Soren had taken oath he had support of 54 MLAs but today his support strength was reduced to 48. That time support was natural but this time support appears to be forced. The way they were taken to different places before they were brought in the house for voting appeared that someone kept knives on their necks to bring them in the house. The exercise gave an impression that the government has no confidence in its legislators,” Roy said.

Meanwhile, BJP legislative party leader Babulal Marandi has termed convening of the one-day assembly session by the Jharkhand government as unconstitutional. He said that under Article 163 of the Constitution, the Chief Minister and the Legislative Council are there to assist and advise the Governor, so the Chief Minister should have given this proposal to the Governor and not to the Speaker.

He said that according to Article 164(2) of the Constitution, only the Governor can order that the Council of Ministers obtain a vote of confidence in the Assembly. The Chief Minister cannot give such a motion to the Speaker without the permission of the Governor.
