BJP seeks bail for Kalicharan

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Brijmohan Agrawal on Sunday demanded that the Chhattisgarh government should release Hindu leader Kalicharan Maharaj on bail.

He also asked how a Pakistan-based Islamic group was being allocated 25 acres of land at Boriyakhurd (Raipur) in name of a community hall.

Addressing the media, Agrawal said the Kalicharan row was a conspiracy hatched by Congress leaders.

He said Kalicharan was invited the ‘Dharma Sansad’ where he justified Mahatma Gandhi's assassination although he had been spewing venom even earlier.

Everyone at the event was given 10-20 minutes to speak but Kalicharan was given more than two hours. Why, he wanted to know.

The sedition charges were imposed as Kalicharan entered the Chhattisgarh border but no action had been taken against those speaking against Lord Ram and Hindus.

The BJP will support the religious leader to fight the case, he said.

Showcasing an advertisement inviting claims and objections, Agrawal said the Dawat-e-Islami, a Pakistan-based Islamic organisation founded in 1981 in Karachi, was being given 25 acres at Boriyakhurd (Raipur).

He said 5,000 applications from different communities were pending across the state and asked why an application filed in 2020 was being given priority.

Agrawal said the BJP will take the matter to the court.
