BJP questions appointment of permanent DGP in Jharkhand

Published on:

BJP State President and former Chief Minister Babulal Marandi today took a big dig at the state government in the DGP appointment case. Marandi was addressing a press conference at the state office today.

Marandi said that by deceiving the people of Jharkhand, the Hemant government has openly violated the orders of the Supreme Court. The state government has not only broken the limits of the Constitution but has also made the police administration system of the state a weapon for its political conspiracies.

He said that while hearing the Prakash Singh case in the year 2006, the Supreme Court had directed that the appointment of the DGP would be from the recommended panel of the UPSC. Still, the Hemant government bypassed the UPSC and made Anurag Gupta the DGP on its own will, whose name was not in the recommended list of the UPSC.

He said that the Supreme Court has clearly instructed that until the state government makes a new law, the appointment will be done only through the process of UPSC. But Chief Minister Hemant Soren started considering himself above the Supreme Court. He does not know the difference between an executive order and an act.

Marandi further said that the state government made a rule in 2025 while the Act was not passed. Any government first makes an Act and then it becomes rules. If this act was not passed, then how did the rules come into being?

He said that the question arises here that why and how did the state government try to implement the 2025 rule with retrospective effect? And how did the state government officials allow this illegal process?

He said that the Chief Minister adopts a double policy even on the orders of the court. He takes recourse to the comments of the High Court to prove himself innocent, while on the other hand he disregards the orders of the Supreme Court in running the government.

He said that a conspiracy has been hatched by a former judge of the Jharkhand High Court to weaken the judiciary. A former judge of the Jharkhand High Court is said to be involved in the illegal appointment process of the DGP. If the former judge himself gets involved in the illegal actions of the state government, then what will be the effect on the impartiality of the judiciary?

He further said that Anurag Gupta was involved in electoral malpractice, he was also suspended for two years. An FIR was even registered against him. He is the most controversial IPC officer of the state.

Said that he was also kept free from election work, then why did the Hemant government make such a corrupt, tainted and controversial officer the DGP? Does the Hemant government want to save such an officer by giving him important responsibility?

He said that the officer who was suspended for years for his wrongdoings, whose actual age limit for the job is going to end on 30 April, then why was there a need to make him DGP? Was Anurag Gupta made DGP as a reward for rigging the election?
