BJP opposes Church interference over Stan arrest

The State BJP has opposed Church interference over the arrest of 83 year old priest Father Stan Swamy.

State BJP spokesperson, Pratul Shahdeo today slammed representatives from Catholic Church who are opposing the arrest of Swamy.

Shahdeo said, “By opposing the arrest of Swamy who is accused in the Bhima Koregaon incident they are interfering with the judicial process of this country. Swamy has been arrested by NIA for his involvement in instigating communal flare up in the country.”

Last Thursday, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) took Jesuit priest Swamy into custody from his home in Ranchi in connection with the Bhima Koregaon case.

Swamy is sixteenth person to be arrested in the case. Several others have been booked under sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Unlawful activities (prevention) act.

Not only the Church but even Chief Minister Hemant Soren too has opposed the arrest of Swamy.

Meanwhile, Shahdeo said that there are double standards of the Soren government and Chuch over atrocities against tribals.

Shahdeo said the Church remains mum over rape of a minor tribal girl  at Barhait and Gumla. The Church also remains mum on the massacre of tribals at Gudri, but raises questions on legal and constitutional process.

Meanwhile in other development a BJP delegation headed by party Rajya Sabha member and national president of ST morcha Samir Oraon is to visit Ramgarh (Dumka) and Barhait in Sahibganj where minor tribal girls were raped.
