Former Information Commissioner Gangotri Kujur contesting from Mandar Constituency as Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate wants the people to give atleast one chance to lead the constituency to the path of development. The party has not won elections in last 14 years in Mandar and for Kujur, in such circumstances, the party’s win will create a history here.
“The condition of most of the villages is pathetic in the State including those existing within Mandar. Resources are available but are not utilised properly. For example, in Mandar, villagers are devoid from irrigation facilities because of the high rate of kerosene oil to run their water pump. It is not possible for them to afford oil worth `50 to `100 per liter. The price has to be reduced,” said the tribal lady trying her luck in politics for the first time ever.
“like kerosene prices, there is a need to ensure electricity in all houses with deep boring facility. Education for children and women employment is another sector which should be addressed. My native constituency doesn’t have proper health facilities. These are some issues which I will certainly work on if given the opportunity to win not as a woman but as a person who had dedicated her life in serving people,” she added.
Kujur who is residing at Mandar for around five years considers the game of politics a challenge. “BJP has never won in this constituency. Being a first timer in politics, I deserve to get a chance to work with transparency the way I have done my job as Information Commissioner,” she pointed.
The lady however preferred remaining ‘silent’ over the question of Modi Wave in her own constituency. According to her it is an individuals’ perception on how he or she thinks on a party’s future relating to the development of the state in true terms.
“PM Modi has succeeded in forming a stable government at the Centre. The same can happen in the state if BJP gathers large number of votes in all the constituencies. Recent activities indicate that there is no second thought on the party winning the upcoming elections in Jharkhand similar to Haryana and Maharashtra,” she said.
Interestingly, Kujur started pleasing voters particularly those of villages long before filing her nomination from BJP. Asked the reason, she said, it is important to connect with people before joining the field of politics so that they can be a moral support in future. “Unless people do not establish proper communication with their leaders, it is difficult for them to realise their self-responsibilities,” she said.
