Palamu BJP MP VD Ram takes up the cudgels for those peasants here in his Palamu lok Sabha constituency where a couple of rivers are making huge erosions of fertile lands of the peasants rendering them virtually landless and economically depressed. The rivers are the Koyal, the Sone, the Ouranga, the Amanat.
Sources said thousands of acres of fertile land of the peasants have thus ‘gone into these rivers’ as these rivers have eroded it and engulfed the land in the rivers. Sources said BJP MP travelled across his lok Sabha constituency from Singra village near the town Daltonganj to Dangwar in Hussainabad block to know and see for himself the menace of erosion of fertile land and the miseries of the farmers whose agricultural lands so gone into the river.
BJP MP V D Ram gave this ‘information’ of massive erosion of agricultural lands in his lok Sabha constituency to the General Secretary lok Sabha Delhi this July 31st. As the monsoon session of the lok Sabha has virtually been unproductive by the indifferent attitude of the Congress party, the BJP MP of Palamu thought it fit to write this ‘information’ to the General Secretary lok Sabha under Rule 377.
BJP MP has written that it is not only the erosion of agricultural lands by the rivers but there is also the problem of silting of fertile land. River waters are bringing with it huge quantity of sand and these sand is making the fertile land arid.
MP Ram has given a list of 44 villages falling in his lok sabha constituency where the menacing rivers are causing havoc with the farmers.
Sources said Dangwar is one such village where there is the confluence of two major rivers of Jharkhand and Bihar the Koyal and the Sone rivers respectively and here the farmers are a mute witness to their land going ‘ in the lap of the rivers’.
BJP MP Ram has raised the issue of kachha houses built on the banks of the rivers too facing a kind of extinction. the MP has reiterated if this menace is not controlled then a huge exodus of people from riverine area can not be ruled out.
Palamu BJP MP has urged the Union Government to take immediate steps in this direction.
One elderly citizen who has been a long river watcher here Azad said the flood waters of the river is difficult to be pushed away but this haphazard mining of sand by sand mafia in river bed has led to this critical problem where fertile land is becoming arid.
