BJP mocks Congress dharna on OBC quota

The ruling party Congress and Opposition BJP are competing with each other over 27 per cent reservation to Other Backward Caste (OBCs). The State Congress on Tuesday organized a day-long dharna near Raj Bhavan demanding 27 per cent reservation to OBCs. The Opposition BJP has mocked the dharna of Congress dharna headed by State president Rajesh Thakur saying that dharna is eyewash to people.

Targeting the Congress party, BJP MP from Ranchi Sanjay Seth said, “The Congress party’s dharna against its own Government is an eyewash to people as the party is misleading the people on the issue.” The Ranchi MP further said that apart from senior leaders attending the dharna, ministers in Soren cabinet from Congress quota too are attending the dharna. The Ranchi MP dared the Congress party to call a special session of Assembly within 24 hours for passing of OBC reservation or withdraw support from the Government.

With the passage of the Constitution (127th amendment) bill, the door for 27 per cent reservation to OBCs has been cleared at the same time the Centre has restored the power of states to make their own lists of Other Backward Classes (OBCs).

Echoing the views of Seth, former minister and Ranchi MLA CP Singh said that Congress should clear its stand on OBC reservation, while on one hand Congress is demanding implementation of OBC reservation at the same time four ministers are from Congress quota in State Government.

Singh said, “If the Government was serious about providing 27 per cent reservation to OBCs then the government should have passed the bill in the monsoon session, but at monsoon session the government was busy with allotting room for Namaz and other issues.”

Singh highlighting the work of Narendra Modi government for OBC said that Modi government constituted the OBC commission apart from providing 27 per cent reservation to OBCs and 10 per cent reservation to EWS in the All India Quota (AIQ) scheme for medical courses.

The BJP press conference was also attended by Hatia MLA Naveen Jaiswal. Jaiswal targeting the State Government said that the JMM and Congress in its election manifesto had announced 27 per cent reservation to OBCs within three months, but the Government has failed to fulfill its promises.
