BJP knocks EC door over Dumka candidate’s documents

Published on:

A BJP delegation today knocked the door of Chief Electoral Officer, Jharkhand with a plea to cancel the nomination of JMM candidate Basant Soren contesting the Dumka bypoll for submitting false documents in his election affidavit.

A BJP delegation headed by party election cell co convenor Sudhir Srivastava in his plea has mentioned that Basant Soren, who is contesting Dumka bye-election as JMM candidate has submitted false documents in his election affidavit.

Srivastava claimed that there are differences in junior Soren's affidavit as submitted in 2016 as party’s Rajya Sabha candidate to those affidavits submitted in 2020 for Dumka bye election.

As per BJP plea, Soren in his affidavit submitted in 2016 has mentioned that his wife Hemlata Soren possesses 3 kg 65 grams of gold worth around  Rs 34 lakhs. In the election affidavit submitted in 2020, Soren mentioned that his wife possesses 3 kg 55 gram of gold worth around Rs 34 lakh.

The BJP delegation claimed that Soren has given the wrong valuation of gold. As per the quantity of gold in 2016, the valuation should be Rs 75 lakh, while the valuation of same quantity of gold in 2020 should be around Rs 1.5 crore.

Similarly, the BJP claimed that Soren has submitted the wrong valuation of silver in two election affidavits submitted in 2016 and 2020.  Srivastava claimed in the 2016 Rajya Sabha election affidavit; Soren had claimed that he possessed a pistol worth Rs 1.52 lakh. However, in the 2020 election affidavit submitted by Soren he has tried to hide the fact as there is no mention of possessing a pistol by him.

The BJP also raised the issue of giving wrong vehicle documents possessed by Basant Soren. As per BJP plea, in 2016 affidavit, Basant had mentioned that he owns a Hyndui I 20 car bearing registration number JH01 BS- 3030 valued at around Rs 8 lakh. The said vehicle was purchased in 2016.

However, in the election affidavit submitted by Soren in 2020, he mentions about the same company vehicle with same registration number but the model of car has been mentioned as I10, valued at around Rs 5 lakh.

Srivastava claimed that the same vehicle with the same registration number can be of two different models.

The BJP leader claimed that junior Soren has provided wrong documents about land in 2016 and 2020.

Soren in 2016 has submitted that he possessed non-agricultural land at five places, but in 2020 he mentioned that he possessed non-agricultural land at four places.

The BJP delegation has made the plea to Chief Electoral Officer, Jharkhand, Chief Election Commissioner, New Delhi, Deputy Commissioner Dumka and Sub Divisional Magistrate Dumka with a plea to cancel the nomination of JMM candidate Basant Soren.
