As many as five locations have been identified in Ranchi for the much-talked-about ‘Chai pe Charcha’ (discussion over tea), a campaign being launched nationwide on February 12 to establish dialogue between BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi with at least two crore people at 1,000 locations across the country. The discussions are to see gathering at tea stalls through various rounds of interactive sessions with Modi through video conferencing. Ranchi is one among the 300 cities chosen for the direct interaction.

“As of now Firayalal Chawk, Booty More, Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences, Gandhi Nagar and Harmu Bazaar has been chosen for the first round of ‘Chai pe Charcha’ also represented by a local prominent leader’,” said an office bearer of the party looking after social media in Jharkhand. The programme will be extended to other regions like Dhanbad and Palamau in the next rounds.

According to the State BJP this is a unique initiative by Modi to connect to the maximum number of people for propagating party’s programmes and policies. It is likely to present an opportunity to the people to know the leader in better manner.

“Among the five locations in Ranchi, Firayalal Chowk will have a two-way-communication, where people can also raise their questions which will be answered live by Modi,” he said.

On the other four locations however, people can take part in the discussion going on at the national level but they cannot take part in it as there will be only a one way communication. People participating can only give their suggestions and ask questions through phones or social media during events or after it.

The locations selected all across the country use a unique combination of satellite, DTH, internet and mobile as technology tool. Campaign is to take off at tea stalls between 6 - 8 PM in the evening when people are back from work. As many as 15 such rounds of tea have been planned which will be taking place every five days. Each time the location will be changed involving more and more people in the discussion. For February 12 topic selected is about good governance.

Though, Modi will be speaking in Hindi, to cater more and more people, his message would also be translated into local dialects across the country where Hindi or English is not commonly understood.

The campaign is being launched through an NGO -- Citizens for Accountable Governance supporting Modi and the party expects to establish dialogue with at least two crore people through the interactive sessions at tea stalls and extensive campaign is being done by the BJP’s social media cell to make it a success.
