The State BJP unit today lauded Union Cabinet decision to provide 10 per cent reservation for economically vulnerable section in the general class in education and government jobs. However, all Opposition parties said it is an another political jumla because there are several issues which will prevent it to implement.
Addressing a press meet on Tuesday, Urban and Housing Development Minister, CP Singh said, “In a historic decision Prime Minister Narendra Modi led Union Cabinet has taken decision for 10 per cent reservation for those who are economically weaker and fall in the general category. Following the Cabinet approval, the government will move to amend the Constitution in order to grant this 10 per cent reservation for economically weaker in the general category.”
“As earlier many time the issue has been talked but not any government has shown courage to announce reservation for general category. After 70 years of independence of India the Modi government has experienced the pain of general class. As it is party’s view that ‘Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas’.”
Speaking on the issue main opposition party Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, Executive President and Leader of Opposition Hemant Soren said, “It will also prove another election stunt. There is no provision to cross limit of 50 per cent in the Constitution. If the government has to cross the limit then it has amend the Constitution.”
“If the government brings amendment in the Constitution the party is demanding that it should give 27 per cent reservation to local of backward casts. Reservation of tribals should be increased from 26 per cent to 28 per cent on the basis of population and five per cent reservation to minorities. First of all the government should ensure jobs then talk on reservation. It is nothing else only election gimmick and the government is duping general class” Soren added.
Speaking on the issue State Congress chief Ajoy Kumar said, “The truth is that after four years and eight months, the Modi government has suddenly woken up to the woes of economically poor facing imminent defeat in the 2019 elections and with 100 days to go for polls. It completely an election stunt as results of the three States has forced the government to take the step.”
“However, the government has to bring amendment in the Constitution to provide reservation to poor of general class because there is no rule to cross 50m per cent limit of reservation. And the already 49.5 per cent reservation given to the SCs, STs and OBCs,” Kumar added. The main ally of the ruling government AJSU Party has also said that the Union Cabinets has taken the decision with good faith but in hurry. The AJSU Party is demanding that the government should give reservation on the basis of population and make limit to 73 per cent. Jharkhand Vikas Morcha Supremo Babulal Marandi said, the reservation should be given on the basis of population.
During his tenure the government has passed 73 per cent proposal of reservation but the Court had rejected it at that time, he added.
