BJP flays Govt decision to lower pay scale of teachers

The Bharatiya Janata Party has strongly objected to the Jharkhand Trained Secondary Combined Competitive Examination-2025 (Advertisement No. 02/2025 dated 10/06/2025) issued by the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission. The party's state spokesperson Ramakant Mahato has described it as a serious tampering with the dignity of teachers and the education system of the state.

Mahato said that the government is not only cutting the pay scale of teachers through the new appointment rules, but is also abolishing established posts like TGT and PGT and appointing teachers in the name of secondary Acharya at low salaries. This is not only insulting the teachers, but also doing injustice to the future of qualified educated unemployed.

He said that earlier TGT teachers were appointed on 4600- grade pay and ₹44,900/- basic salary, and PGT teachers were appointed on 4800/- grade pay and ₹47,600/- basic salary, whereas now the government is going to give only 4200/- grade pay and ₹35,400/- basic salary to the secondary teachers appointed in place of these posts.

Mahato warned that this reduction in pay scale and change in designation by the government will have an adverse effect on the morale of the teachers and it will become difficult to provide quality education in schools. He said that when a single teacher will have to teach classes from 9th to 12th, it will put unnecessary burden of workload on the teachers.

The state spokesperson said that under the new rules issued by the government, the posts of Headmaster of High School and Principal of +2 School have been removed and a common post of "Principal" has been created, whose grade pay has been fixed at only 4800/-, whereas earlier grade pay was 5400/- and 7600/- respectively. This shows extreme contempt towards teachers.

The BJP spokesperson raised the question that when the posts of TGT and PGT are still intact in the Kendriya Vidyalayas run by the Central Government, then why were they abolished in Jharkhand? Is this decision not a conspiracy to exploit teachers in the name of New Education Policy 2020?

He clearly said that the state government neither brought a planning policy, nor could provide employment, and now even in the appointments that are being made, teachers are being humiliated by giving low pay scale. This is injustice to the future of the educated youth of the state.

BJP has demanded that the government should withdraw this wrong regulation as soon as possible and ensure proper pay scale along with restoration of TGT and PGT posts as before.
