BJP chief whip wants Budget Session to end midway

Published on:

looking at no end to the continuing pandemonium in the House since it assembled for the Budget Session a week ago, the frustration in the ruling party has crossed every limit. BJP’s chief whip Radha Krishna Kishore has clearly called for premature end of the Session like it had been done on at least three previous occasions.

Talking to The Pioneer after the House could not transact much of the scheduled business even on Wednesday, outraged Kishore suggested for the extreme step and saw it coming from Speaker Dinesh Oraon.

“The Opposition has made up its mind not to allow the House to function. They are in the process spoiling time of other members along with huge public money. My belief is that as the required legislative works of the Government are over and the Budget is passed, may be by guillotine, the House should be adjourned sine die for the entire Session,” said the Chattarpur MlA.

The suggestion nonetheless may have come for the first time from any legislator that also from a ruling party member who is holding an important position in the Assembly but is not a new thing for Jharkhand. At least two previous Sessions, including the last Budget Session had to be called off abruptly looking at consistent disruptions from the united Opposition in the form of JMM, JVM and Congress.

“I don’t think the House holds any relevance for them looking at their attitude. We prepare our question infusing so much effort, Assembly staffs work overnight to prepare the replies and they just infuse adjournments after adjournments! It would be better for the members to remain in their respective areas rather than coming here and wasting their time. What I feel that the Speaker would do that sooner,” added the seasoned politician. The fortnight long Session is to function till February 7.

He, however, distanced from what the Government is thinking over the issue and also added that tenets of parliamentary democracy should not be overlooked in the process. “I cannot say what the Chief Minister and the Government think. I am also against marshaling them out in a parliamentary democracy,” said Kishore who managed to raise JPSC row and a couple of other questions. To some satisfaction to him and other members, Chief Minister Raghubar Das assured in the House to discuss the matter in the Cabinet meeting and urge the ‘autonomous’ body to postpone its Civil Services Mains examination since it had not followed the said reservation provisions in the PT. Kishore’s fears seem to be proving right when the JMM and the JVM stick to their well stated positions. “We have clear demands to the Government. The House cannot function until the tainted officials are removed from their positions. You all are seeing what kind of replies come from the Government to the questions of the members. Are we here just to gather their replies about roads, bridges,” said leader of Opposition Hemant Soren. JVM leader Pradeep Yadav along with the protesting bloc forced two prolonged adjournments back to back on Wednesday when the House was to debate the annual Budget tabled by the Government. The scene is not going to be any different when the Assembly would meet after the Republic Day and weekend leisure on Monday.
