The State BJP has attacked some Christian Missionaries functioning in State of misusing the Chhotanagpur Tenancy Act (CNT) and Santhal Pargana Tenancy Act in sale and purchase of tribal land in State Capital.
State BJP spokesperson Pratul Shahdeo today said, “Large scale anomalies in CNT, SPT Act have been committed in the sale and purchase of 4.23 acres of land under Namkum block.
The land was purchased by one Brother Cyril Lakra from Mundas at price of mere 2.6 lakh, but later said land was sold to Gas Authority of India Limited (GAIL) 13 years later at whopping price of 4.76 crore earning 183 times profit.”
Highlighting the loopholes in the sale/purchase of the land, Shahdeo claimed that Brother Cyril Lakra in the transactions has provided different addresses. “Brother Cyril Lakra in some documents has given his address as Namkum, in other document he has given the address of Puralia Road, while in third document Lakra has claimed to be resident of Gumla which clearly violates the CNT/SPT Act,” said Shahdeo.
Shahdeo claimed that Lakra sold the land on behalf of member of member of Brothers of Gabriel Educational Society which is clear cut violation of CNT, SPT Act.
According to Shahdeo, as per the provisions of CNT, SPT Acts the sale and purchase of tribal land to any society is banned, but in the case first the tribal land of Mundas were purchased by a tribal and later the same piece of land was sold by a society.
Gabriel Educational Society is registered as educational institution in State with its headquarter in Rome (Italy).
The BJP leader claimed that such illegal land transactions is just a tip of the iceberg as in the entire State, Christian missionaries are allegedly involved in sale and purchase of tribal lands. “Christian missionaries are putting ahead innocent tribal in such land deals purchasing land from tribal at throwaway prices,” added Shahdeo.
The BJP leader claimed that there are several examples across the State in which tribal land has been purchased by Christian missionaries.
He also said that the BJP will lodge at complaint in this connection at appropriate forum demanding high level enquiry in such illegal transactions.
