Chief Minister (CM) Hemant Soren’s election campaign at Dumka irked the Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) making it to write a letter to the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Jharkhand to draw attention towards the CM’s presence in the region and supposed interference in the electoral process.
The letter states, “This is to intimate you to take proper action against the Chief Minister of Jharkhand Mr. Hemant Soren as he is misusing his administrative power herein Dumka general election to be held on 24th April 2014.”The BJP held the view that the CM has violated Model Code of Conduct by staying at Dumka to campaign for his father and sitting MP Shibu Soren.
Soren has been regularly campaigning in Santhal Pargana’s most high-profile lok Sabha seat, in terms of contest and candidates in poll ring, after Ranch’s election was over. The letter to the CEO was written by Manoj Sah, Election Agent of BJP candidate for Dumka, Sunil Soren.“Whereas Mr Hemant Soren has been repeatedly conducting meetings in Dumka Parliamentary constituency in different blocks and panchayat … Since local administration might have been in the influence of Chief Minister and so no complaint of violation has yet been registered by administration.
However, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha rubbished complains of influencing the local administration and besides termed Soren’s stay at Dumka a moral duty since he is MlA from Dumka.“local administration is under the control of Election Commission so there is no question of influencing it. Moreover, it is his duty as an MlA to stay at Dumka,” maintained JMM Spokesperson Supriyo Bhattacharya.
