BJP’s membership drive to make party ‘omnipresent’

Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) National General Secretary Arun Singh on Saturday flagged off the party’s membership drive, Sangathan Parv in Ranchi and said that the campaign will help make BJP an omnipresent force.

Addressing the party workers, Kumar said that the BJP is now the largest party in the world and the credit for achieving this feat goes to the dedicated and sincere party workers who have sacrificed for the betterment of the party.

“The Sangathan Parv will help us run the country. Since the days of Jana Sangh, the BJP runs on the principle of democracy. And we are proud of our glorious history and the committed leaders that our party has produced,” said Singh.

The BJP, he said, has formed governments in 17 states and more than 224 parliamentarians voted to power earlier this year had won with a margin of over 50 per cent votes. “The huge margin with which our leaders won in the recent elections show the amount of trust bestowed upon us by the people of the country,” he said.

Singh also lauded the efforts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in running the Government at the Centre and called him a world leader. “Not only is our party the world’s largest party, but it also has the world’s best leader in form of Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” he said.

The membership drive, which aims at strengthening the party in Jharkhand prior to the assembly elections slated here later this year, is likely to add at least 1 lakh new members to the BJP cadre.

The party, Singh said, aims to win at least 65 of the 81 seats in the Jharkhand assembly in the ensuing election. “We have to bring development to the doorsteps of people living in the most backward areas of the state and the country,” he said.

The BJP, which won 12 of 14 Lok Sabha seats in the recently concluded General Elections here, is the single largest party in the State Assembly. The BJP currently has 43 legislators in the State Assembly and is working on increasing the count of their seats by at least 50 percent. In 2014, the BJP became the first party in India to form a majority government in Jharkhand. The State, since its formation in November 2000, was only ruled by coalition governments.

Before addressing the party workers in Ranchi, Singh garlanded a statue of Shyama Prasad Mukherjee, the founder of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh, which later became BJP.

Party workers and BJP leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Saturday paid tribute to Mukherjee on his birth anniversary.
