Bison, her baby found dead in PTR

Published on:

A female bison and her just born baby died in Nunahi in the core area of the tiger reserve Palamu. The deaths of mother and the new born took place soon after the delivery as the umbilical chord is intact, said sources.

This is the second episode when a mother wild life has died with the baby soon after the birth of the baby. In the year 2014 an elephant had died while delivering the baby in the national park Betla.

Anil Kumar Mishra DFO Core confirmed the fatalities of the mother bison and her baby. Mishra said the loss is big as the population of the bison is already dwindling and this endangered wild life needs to be taken care of well for the rise of its population.

Tiger reserve Palamu has no vet surgeon of its own. It has to depend upon block level government vet doctor posted in Barwadeeh.

Mishra conceding this lack of vet doctor of PTR said the issue has been taken up with the higher authorities in the department but there is no result of it so far.

He agreed that a PTR's vet doctor can be of use in emergency situation like this where a mother bison dies with her baby.

He narrated how injured deer or wounded snake is difficult to revive without a vet doctor of PTR as for government block vet doctor there is a whole lot of paraphernalia which draws time and energy too.

Mishra said the stray dogs in Betla which pounce upon the meek deer can be contained had this PTR been provided with a vet doctor since any dog injured deer is to fend for itself for hours as it takes time to bring in vet doctor from Barwadeeh.
