Blood donation is akin to giving life, and an apt way of repaying to nature the debt of one’s own life. The Bank Insurance Sports & Cultural Organisation (BISCO) celebrated foundation day by orgnising blood donation camp at Bokaro General Hospital (BGH) on Friday.

The camp was inugrated by Dr A M Kekre Director of Health and Medical Services BGH. Hundreds of the BISCO members voluntarily donated blood and urges form mass for the same in a bid to give life to the needy, said S N Das General Seceratory of BISCO.

Praising the important contribution of the voluntary blood donors Dr. Kekre said that the real significance of this humanitarian deed can only be appreciated by those who come to the hospital during distress, have no support system of their own and must depend on the blood donated by others. While it does absolutely no harm to the donors, he said, it proves critical and life saving for the recipients.

The Blood Bank of BGH has for long been one of the leading centres in this region, with state-of-the-art testing and storage facilities. It also has a blood component therapy unit, which helps multiply the utility of each unit of blood by separating its components for specific use as per the case at hand. The Blood Bank is also a key partner in the AIDS prevention drive of NACO / JSACS, informed a hospital authority.
