Bhagwan Birsa Biological Park, Ormanjhi turned “environmental studies” zone on Thursday as 28 teachers from various state universities visited here. This visit was a part of their curriculum of ongoing refresher course at Ranchi University (RU) Academic Staff College. This refresher course is said to be the last of its kind in this 2013-14 academic session.
“Birsa zoo has perfect ambience for conservation of wildlife and environment within this state capital region. It is because of this reason, we always refer our participants to visit this zoo so that they can witness this atmosphere and prepare their project report accordingly,” an official of RU Academic Staff College said.
According to Office Senior Assistant RK Jha of this college the participants hail from universities of Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, West Bengal and Karnataka. He said that the refresher course benefits the teachers in gaining career advancement and
promotion opportunities.
Zoo Doctor Ajay Kumar said, “Every year such a team of intellectuals comes to our zoo. For 2014, this was the first visit of university teachers. An hour lecture on ‘Conservation of Environment’ was addressed by our Director AK Patra to these teachers on this occasion. They then went through the enclosures of inmates and held an interaction with us so as to clear their doubts related to wildlife and their life scenario.”
“The 21 days refresher course will conclude on March 25. This visit was basically an ‘educational tour’. It is being coordinated by RU Post Graduate Zoology faculty
Dr Shamshun Nehar,” Jha said.
Presently, zoo officials are planning on renovating the veterinary hospital as well so that it becomes a more well-equipped treatment centre for wild animals and birds. Also, the authorities are looking forward in functioning of the long back constructed aquarium. Tenders for Canteen and Supply Feed are being invited since February for this zoo at the website of Jharkhand
Zoo Authority.
The website clearly mentions that providing wholesome diet in required quantity to the zoo inmates is one of the two highest priorities adopted by the zoo administration, the other being the animal health care.
However, green fodder is mostly produced within the vicinity of this zoo. Due importance is given to the quality and quantity of the feed article supplied to the zoo, as per the web page of animal health care of this website.
