Putting aside the protest of teachers, the Vinoba Bhave University administration has stepped forward towards installing biometric attendance machines at university headquarters, PG departments and constituent colleges. On June 14, companies are coming to demonstrate their products at university headquarter. Due to the protest from the teachers earlier the proposal of installation of biometric machine at VBU was delayed.
It was an order from Chancellor office and when VBU administration received a letter from Raj Bhavan, the process of installation of biometric machine which was a forgotten matter, has once again started. In the meeting of finance committee which was held on June 5, this proposal was included in the agenda in last hours and was passed by the veto of VC RN Bhagat.
On Friday, the university officers will take a close look of the working pattern of this machine and after comparing the rates, quality, warranty and other things the university administration will issue order letter to the qualified company to supply it. It is supposed that by the end of this month these biometric attendance machines will get fitted everywhere.
After installation the teachers and staffs will have to register their time of entry and departure from the departments and offices by putting their thumbs or entire palm on the machine.
When the above news came out once again teachers are making plan to oppose it. The general secretary of PG Teachers Association K Kumar said that we had given the decision of our association in writing to the university administration that the teachers of the post graduate department will not mark their attendance in the biometric machines and still we are on same stand. Since it is summer vacations nowadays so the teachers are in wait and watch mood but it is sure that they will protest this decision after the vacation.
A teacher who supports this decision said that by installing biometric machines only things are not going to change, the teachers and staffs who are usual bunkers will register their entry and exit time but they will not serve as they do always. If Chancellor Office and university administration is serious on it then they will have to install it in every classroom then only the teachers who do not take classes will have no option other than to enter into the classroom.
