Bio manure plant at Pahari Temple defunct during Shravan

The Biological manure plant set up on the Pahari Temple premises has been lying defunct since January due to lack of maintenance, a member of the Pahari Mandir Vikas Samiti said on Wednesday.  The committee is storing the huge amount of waste being generated during the auspicious month of Shravan in a pit in order to use it once the plant starts functioning again.

“The Vikas Samiti has already discussed upon the renewal plan for the bio manure plant. Work on the maintenance and renewal of the plant is likely to start right after Shravan. The Monsoon season is anyway not a favourable time for composting process,” said Sunil Kumar Seru, an official from the Pahari Mandir Vikash Samiti.

Lack of availability of labourer due to the harvesting season can be regarded as the prime reason for the collapse of the systematic use and maintenance of the plant, told Seru. “The biological manure plant was set up with the idea of sustainable development and adoption of environment friendly ways of waste management. We wanted to set an example amongst all the other temples to deal with the biodegradable offerings and make profit out of it,” Seru said.

The plant, being one of its kind in the State Capital, was inaugurated in the year 2014 by Sanjeev Vijaywargiya, Deputy Mayor of Ranchi to convert the bio degradable waste of flowers, plants and leaf (Belpatra) offerings by the devotees into organic manure by the process of decomposition and vermi-composting.
