Bicycle, an alternative for electricity!

Published on:

Ever thought of producing electricity through cyclingIJ Yes, it does. looking at the power-crisis at her village Bano Boro Seta located in Simdega district, Gudiya Kumari, a class X student of Janta High School, Jitutoli made a model showcasing ‘Self-Defence Electricity Generation’ wherein electrical energy is generated by paddling the iron-paddles of a wooden cycle connected with an alternator to a battery.Interestingly, the model can be called as ‘Small Electric Generator’. Apart from power, the cycling as it own specialty will help in maintaining fitness as well.

Explaining the functioning of this Gudiya said, “One needs to do cycling on this model. The battery ranging from 12 to 24 volts will be charged through the amount of electricity generated with this cycling process. It can then be connected to an inverter thereby helping as an alternative for supplying current to household electric appliances, gadgets or irrigation motors. The whole manpower system can be easily installed within Rs 4000 to 5000 budget.”

It took Guriya just three days to install parts of this project. “It is a new concept for people across the globe. Infact, such a cheap model can benefit our state known for power-crunch in most of the rural areas,” said I Kandulna, the clerk of Guriya’s school who helped her in collecting the electric equipments for her project.”

Displaying this unique concept at the state level science exhibition on Tuesday witnessed by State Human Resources Minister Geetashree Oraon and Principal Secretary DK Tiwary, Gudiya like any talented village girl, took pride for being selected at this level from the district stage. She said, “Just after implementating my ideas in this form, I explained my farming parents how this project can personally help them in the fields. They told me, “Beti, agar sarkar iss project ki khaasiyat ko samajh le toh hum issey zarur istamal karenge (Daughter, if Government understands the importance of this project then we will definitely use of this model).”

“I wish our government considers this manual system as an option for electricity production. It would help in lighting the villages which are deprived of 24 hours light for more than a decade,” Gudiya added.
