Bhim barrage releases water for Bihar

One of the biggest stakeholders Bihar Government and its farmers are now a happy lot as Palamu based Bhim barrage has released thousands of cusecs of water in the right canal which takes water to far flung villages of the State in two districts Aurangabad and Gaya.

Stating this chief engineer Ml Pingua of Jharkhand’s irrigation department in Daltonganj said water has been released from Bhim barrage where the two gates washed out in the last week’s rains but got fixed now.

Pingua said water will be available in the left canal which caters to the need of farmers of Jharkhand based in district of Palamu.

However he said it was a terrible time for the irrigation department engineers to fix gate number 4 and 31 which were earlier washed out by the flash flood as villagers in hundreds started resisting any move to install these two gates in the Bhim barrage citing reason that the irrigation department first treat their upper stream embankment more strongly and widely before going for the installation of these two gates.

Bihar’s Nabinagar MlA Birender K Singh had also reached here for the farmers of his State and discussed the issue with the farmers here. “The Bihar MlA had to work hard to bring Jharkhand farmers to agree to permit fixation of two gates in this barrage. he has assured fiscal assistance too from his Government in raising the embankment for the upper stream for which the villagers were so vocal and resistant,” Pingua said.
