Bhagat pledges to reconstitute PCC after Makar Sankranti

Published on:

The Pradesh Congress Committee would get a new look only after the ‘auspicious’ Makar Sankranti is over. The decision in this regard has been taken and against the inputs coming about resentments gripping the rival camp, State Congress president Sukhdeo Bhagat would go ahead dismantling the existing body.

“The PCC is definitely going to be abolished. There is no second thought to that. Probably after the

Makar Sankranti festival is over, we would sit together and make wider consultations with senior party leaders. New and active faces would replace the non-performers into the PCC,” Bhagat told The Pioneer.

Inputs are that those who have resigned from the party posts would not be repeated in the new team. Along with that, five vice-presidents figuring from each five divisions of the State would be inducted into the organizational committee.

Also, posts of general secretaries and secretaries would be filled afresh.

Moreover, the decision of the PCC president in this regard and subsequent nod reportedly coming from Congress high command, including national president Sonia Gandhi and vice-president Rahul Gandhi has irked another faction headed by Rajya Sabha MP Pradeep Balmuchu.

Balmuchu following the information about a new look committee came in, had went public questioning the locus of the PCC chief in dissolving the committee. When asked, whether the resentment was the reason for the delay in going ahead with the decision made about a month ago, Bhagat retorted, “I don’t care for anyone in this regard. The decision has been made and this is going to happen at an appropriate time.”

Party insiders say that the confidence of Bhagat is the result of his thumping win in the lohardaga bypoll.

“He has arrived doubly stronger after the performance which was much needed for the party also. He should have announced about dissolution of incumbent PCC then and there itself after he met Sonia Gandhi and Rahulji in Delhi. His opponents are on sticky wicket in the likelihood of both Rajya Sabha seats held by them going to be lost in 2016 and 2017,” said a party general secretary and a close aide of Bhagat.

Notably, term of party MPs in the Upper House Dheeraj Sahu and Pradeep Balmuchu is going to end soon and considering strength of the party in the Assembly probably none of the seat would come into the Congress’ kitty and in a sense would weaken Bhagat’s bête noire.
