Bhagat blames party leadership for delay

Identifying the non-existent Coordination Committee in Jharkhand even after four months of Government formation as major reason behind ruckus taking place on various issues on daily basis, State Congress chief Sukhdeo Bhagat blamed his own party leadership for the delay. He at the same time also turned the heat on the Hemant Soren-led Government by terming it ‘slow’.

“I am aware about the conflicting statements coming from leaders and also from Ministers about functioning of the Government. As this a coalition Government comprising many parties difference in opinion is quite possible. For this only there is a provision for Coordination Committee. But for us many things have to be decided in Delhi which is taking time. I admit that due to not forwarding names by the Congress there is a delay,” said the Pradesh Congress Committee president while addressing a press conference on Tuesday.

Notably the Committee was decided to be formed soon after the coalition of JMM-Congress-RJD and Independents came into existence in July. latest in this regard is Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s reluctance to head it and now it is more or less clear that Congress in-charge of Jharkhand BK Hariprasad would be the chairperson.

Bhagat further said that names from other coalition partners had come and after ongoing State elections got over the Committee—ideated to be a platform for discussing contentious issues arising among the coalition partners—would take a final shape. He on the occasion also took a dig on the Government for its performance.

“It (Government) is on the right track but slow. Work to indentify beneficiaries apart from existing BPl and APl under the provisions of Food Security Act (FSA) is yet to be done as the CM had assured that it would be completed in November. I expect it would happen in December. Ministers would also be given instructions for improvement in work culture,” said Sukhdeo Bhagat.

FSA along with land Acquisition Act have been the flagship steps taken by the Congress-led UPA and the State unit of the party wants on makes people aware about these in a big way. A booklet depicting provisions of the Acts was also released on the occasion on 96th birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
