With the mission to cure club foot, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between BSl’s Bokaro General Hospital (BGH) and Cure International India on Saturday.
Club foot is a congenital physical deformity in babies which severely twists the foot downwards and inward, according to BGH officials. “There will now be hope for children afflicted with this congenital deformity. With timely intervention, they will be able to walk properly, run and play like other children.” said Dr Singh.
The MoU was signed at BGH by director in-charge Dr AK Singh (medical and health services), general manager (CSR) Dr PK Banerjee and State coordinator of Cure International India Ashray Ekka.
It entails training for doctors at BGH, providing special shoes and maintaining medical records and follow-up treatment provided by Cure International India.
“Cure International India is a charitable organisation under CSR initiative of Bokaro Steel limited (BSl),” added the official.
Ekka highlighted the efforts made by Cure International in its crusade against this ailment and elaborated the support to be made available by them to BGH.
BGH joint director and head of orthopaedics department Dr ND Kachhap explained the treatment protocols involving the Ponseti method for club foot disorder and its effectiveness.
Besides others, Dr Bibhore Sharma, senior deputy director (orthopaedics), and Dr KN Thakur, joint director and head of Psychiatry were present during the MoU signing ceremony.
