Conducting raids on the foothills of Kasmar, also a Maoist zone, SDM Bermo Rahul Sinha busted an illegal coke factory and recovered several hundred tonnes of illegal coal stocked.The SDM also recovered hundred sacks of illegal coal during the raids at Butanadih area in Bermo sub-division here on Sunday.
The SDM launched an anti-coal smuggling drive to nab coal smugglers and to curb illegal mining and transportation. Chief secretary Sajal Chakarverty had directed SDM and police officials to check the coal mafia and asked sub-divisional officers to make arrangements to fill up abandoned coal mines where illegal excavation are in practice. He had also directed coal companies operational here to take necessary measures in stopping illegal extraction or smuggling of coal in their project sites.
