Bengal to resume potato supply

The good news seem to have finally come for State residents as the West Bengal (WB) Government has decided to again resume the supply of potatoes. State Agriculture Minister Yogendra Sao confirmed the news.

“In a telephonic conversation with WB Agriculture Minister it has been decided to resume the supply of potatoes back. The Minister has sought a list from us that would include the requirement of potatoes in state’s different districts. Once the list reaches his table supply of potatoes will begin from next day.” Sao said that he had ordered Agriculture Secretary Nitin Madan Kulkarni to prepare the list within few hours and fax it to his WB counterpart as soon as possible. It is expected that from Thursday, the situation will be under control.

Meanwhile, on the plan of sending delegates to WB to hold a talk with the WB Government over the matter, the Agriculture Department officials showed ignorance response over the plan. “I am not aware about any such plan. It is will be better to consult the person who had said it,” said Agriculture Dept Secretary Nitin Madan Kulkarni. When Sao was contacted over it he tried to cover up his statement by saying that situation will be normal soon.

Meanwhile, Pandra Bazar samiti president Anil Kumar said, “Till first half the trucks were not allowed to cross the Jharkhand boarder. We are not aware about any positive development in this direction but are hopeful that the problem will be sorted out soon.” Officials of Jharkhand State Agriculture Marketing Board said that the new local lot of potato was coming out in the market so Jharkhand need not worry much. “As far as supply of potato in Jharkhand is concerned we are not totally dependent on WB as the local potato produce is coming in the markets soon. This will help end the crisis,” said a Marketing Board official.
